Dear Sir/Madam,

As you have no doubt noticed, dropping some .pdf files into iWeb yields only your text with no “paper” behind it. If your background is white, then the problem isn’t as severe. If you have a darker background like this one or a busy background, a nice floral pattern, perhaps, then it’s hard to determine that the image stands for a page (as the image to the right shows).

Putting aside the issue that you shouldn’t drop a document .pdf directly into iWeb if your intent is to link to it, how does one make a .pdf look more like the page it’s meant to represent? In a previous post, I described one of a possible fiftylevendozen ways to accomplish this (give or take a twotennysix or two) and here’s another that’s relatively quick.

First, create a text box with Insert -> Text. Next, insert the .pdf into this newly created text box with Insert -> Choose... and pick the .pdf you’d like to insert. You'll notice that the inserted .pdf has a blue selection box surrounding it and you’ll need to click elsewhere in the text box (or use the arrow keys) to deselect it. Now, open the inspector palette and click the T icon to bring up the Text pane. Here, you’ll want to make sure that

the Color is set to your desired color (in my case White) and then click the Background Fill button. The result (with the obligatory shadow effect) is displayed to the left. If you try resizing the text box, you’ll notice that the inserted page resizes right along with it and maintains the correct relative page dimensions, no need to set the dimensions of the text box manually, whether it’s a portrait or landscape document.
